Business Career College has been conducting training for the financial services industry since 1997.

We conduct training across Canada, supporting students in their efforts to achieve success in the financial services industry. Business Career College works with more than 300 companies to help those companies bring new people into the financial services industry. We are focused on providing individualized solutions for all of our customers.

In June of 2007 we opened a campus in Calgary and in 2009 we began to offer programs in Vancouver and Toronto. We also have full- and part-time instructors in various locations across the country and offer web-based instruction.We take pride in our ability to deliver a variety of programs in locations right across Canada and on the web.

Bob Watt PictureBob Watt, EPC™ - President & CEO

Bob brings over 30 years of sales, marketing, management and training experience in the financial services industry to Business Career College. In addition to developing new courses, Bob spends much of his time in the classroom. Bob is part owner, President and CEO of Business Career College and Ment-r.com.

In Bob’s first year in the financial services industry he finished among the top ten percent of new agents in a leading Canadian life insurance company. By his third year in the business Bob had achieved the Million Dollar Round Table level of production. Bob went on to lead his province in group insurance sales for two years. This hard work and dedication led to the position of Northern Alberta regional manager for a Canadian life insurance company. Bob subsequently began a partnership in his own agency.

Students have the benefit of Bob’s experience; in a career spanning three decades Bob has been in the shoes of a new agent and has also trained, developed, mentored, and coached. HLLQP, continuing education and Elder Planning Counselor™ are Bob’s specialties. He has practical experience with mutual funds and branch compliance along with Certified Financial Planner® certification courses, Chartered Life Underwriter® designation program courses and Fellow, Life Management Institute® courses.

Bob holds the Elder Planning Counselor™ (EPC™) designation.

Penny Watt PicturePenny Watt, EPC™ - Director of Business Development

Penny is responsible for developing relationships with new students and providing ongoing support to current students. Penny values a strong rapport with our students and always goes the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

Prior to joining the Business Career College in 2003 Penny worked in various nursing roles in the health services industry. Penny has also worked in the telecommunications industry as a long-distance operator.

Penny holds the Elder Planning Counselor™ (EPC™) designation.

Jason Watt PictureJason Watt, CD, CLU®, RHU™ - Instructor

Jason is a full time instructor and director of Business Career College. In addition to developing course-wares and materials, Jason spends much of his time in classrooms across Canada and on the web.

Students in the HLLQP, the CFP® Certification Program and the CLU® Foundational Education Program have the benefit of Jason’s extensive knowledge. He also moderates many continuing education seminars and is responsible for the professional development of instructors at Business Career College. The Business Career College LLQP and Leveraging textbooks are both authored by Jason. After writing the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® exam in November of 2009 he achieved a result which placed him on the President’s List, a distinction recognizing the top examination candidates. Jason also developed Business Career College's own FPSC-Approved Capstone Course.

Before joining Business Career College Jason served in the Canadian Forces. He has taught at the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre and the Canadian Forces Peace Support Training Centre. Jason has also served overseas on four operations with the Canadian Forces.

Jason is active in his community, and serves on the boards of the South Alberta Light Horse Regimental Association, McLeod Community League, Goodwill Industries of Alberta and the Advocis Edmonton Chapter.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alberta, the Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designation and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU) designation. Jason has also been awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD).

Adam Schacter, CFP®, CIM®, EPC™ - Instructor

Adam is a part time instructor with Business Career College. He currently teaches our FPSC Approved Capstone Course to help prospective financial planners in their quest to achieve the CFP designation. 

Adam has become a respected and well-known source of financial advice and information in the Ottawa area and throughout Ontario. He embarked on his career in financial services and investment advice in 2007. Adam attained the designation of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® in June 2010 from the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC). Adam also attained the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation in March 2013 from the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI). In September 2014, Adam obtained his Elder Planning Counselor (EPC) designation.

Adam grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and has had the privilege of extensive travel.  He is an avid runner, cyclist and sports enthusiast. Adam currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Hillel Lodge Foundation - a long term care facility and service that he deems is essential to the long-term well-being of our community.

Colin Johnson PictureColin Johnson, BEd - Director of Operations

Colin manages the day to day administration of the college including the staff, facilities and general operations and has been with the college since 2010.

Before joining Business Career College, Colin worked in financial services in customer service, sales, and training roles. He brings experience in the consumer finance, retail banking and individual health and wellness insurance sectors. Prior to entering the world of financial services, Colin taught high school in New York.

With an active interest in reading, professional development and volunteerism, Colin is a board member with the LGBT Pride Centre of Edmonton.

Colin has a Bachelor of Education Degree focused in Secondary Education, Social Studies and ESL from the University of Alberta and is pursuing a Bachelor of Management with a Human Resources major from Athabasca University.

Kelly Brewer PictureKelly Brewer, BA - Director of Marketing

Kelly makes sure our students have the information they need to make the best decisions for their education.

Before joining the Business Career College team, Kelly worked in customer service, training and management roles in the hospitality sector. He remains interested in cooking outside of a professional capacity and enjoys playing the guitar and banjo.

Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alberta with a History major and Scandinavian Studies minor. During his studies, Kelly focused on modern Western history with interest in environmental history, human migrations and the history of science, technology and ideas.

Omar Farhat PictureOmar Farhat, BA – Administrator, Student Services

Omar is responsible for the student experience at Business Career College. He ensures that our seminars run smoothly and that students have the access to the resources they require to succeed.

Omar brings a wealth of experience to Business Career College with wide exposure managing customer service and call center teams, marketing, retail financial products, credit risk and development projects. He has been a very active volunteer, creating organizations and campaigning for public awareness about civil liberties. Omar is interested in the history of the Middle East and Europe and enjoys reading 20th century fiction, specifically the works of writers from developing countries. He has also travelled extensively and is an aspiring cook interested in Italian and Lebanese cuisine.

Omar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the American University of Beirut.

Maria Nguyen PictureMaria Nguyen, BComm – Administrator, Projects

Maria works with management and our instructors in building success for the business as a whole. She works on a variety of projects depending on business needs, growth strategy and external factors.

Maria began working in her family business at a young age and went on to start her own business as a makeup artist. She has travelled extensively and backpacked in Europe. Maria enjoys playing rugby, fashion, photography and reading.

Maria has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta with majors in Accounting and Finance.

Alex Turner PictureAlexandra Turner, BComm - Student Intake Administrator

Alexandra ensures that all Business Career College student registrations are processed accurately and efficiently, and is critical to a successful student experience.

Alex brings experience in hospitality, administration and marketing. She is an avid runner, especially long distance, and participates in charity marathons throughout the year. In addition to being very involved with Pilates Alex also teaches dance lessons for programs aimed at low income families. She also enjoys cooking and taking care of her animals.

Alexandra has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from MacEwan University with a major in Marketing. She also has a Journalism/Communications Diploma from SAIT.

Marjorie Lewis PictureMarjorie Lewis - Receptionist

Marjorie is the receptionist for our main phone lines and the first person most of our students have the pleasure of speaking with. She handles most incoming questions and bookings for our exams.

Marjorie worked in customer service for over ten years with a leading newspaper before joining BCC.

Marjorie has a Certificate in Medical Reception from Bathurst Collegiate.

Samantha Dennie PictureSamantha Dennie, BSc - Part Time Administrative Support

Samantha is responsible for a wide range of projects relating to student exams and records.

She enjoys helping others and interior decorating.

Samantha has a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from University College of the Caribbean, Jamaica. She recently completed a Diploma in Business Administration from Norquest College in Edmonton.

 

 

 

 

Kelsey McGuinty Picture

Kelsey McGuinty, BA – Administrative Support

Kelsey has held many roles with Business Career College. Currently she provides summer administrative support to our students and staff.

Kelsey brings administrative experience with both the government and the private sector. She enjoys reading and the outdoors.

Kelsey holds a Bachelors of Arts – Social Sciences Degree from the University of Lethbridge with a focus in Anthropology, Psychology and Native American Studies. She is currently working on her Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary.
